Project leader

Location Maroc
Duration 2016 - 2020
Intervention Area Health
Funding 850 000,00 €

Context

A study was carried out by Handicap International in 2009 following reports of a substantial shortage of occupational therapists, the only functional rehabilitation profession not represented in Morocco. This profession, which complements other paramedical professions that do exist in Morocco, is in fact a key part of promoting independence and social participation in essential aspects of daily life. The requirement to develop initial training in occupational therapy comes from public authorities and civil society in Morocco; it has developed and been confirmed since 2009. The major steps in this process were the partnership agreement signed in 2010 between the Ministry of Health and Handicap International to provide technical support for the setting up of an occupational therapy strand, and the resulting signature of the Framework Agreement to support the implementation of the National Health/Disability Action Plan 2015–2021, which includes as a priority the development of initial training in occupational therapy.
