Malian civil defence: from theory to practice
Just over a year ago the Monaco Fire Brigade played host to two Malian firefighters – Staff Sergeants Gourdo Maïga and Massa Traoré – for water rescue training with a view to their being able, on their return, to put to practice the techniques learnt and to share them with their teammates.
The course concluded with a drill incorporating a jump from a helicopter into the sea and the two Malian firefighters were each offered a complete set of equipment by their Monegasque counterparts.
Last week, the technical skills learnt and equipment provided helped them to complete a mission with the Koulikoro riverine unit successfully after a pirogue capsized on the Niger River.
The Monaco Fire Brigade and the Monegasque Cooperation would like to congratulate the Koulikoro riverine unit and are delighted that cooperation with the Malian Directorate General for Civil Defence is paying off.
